What If You Choose to Move Out?

You do not need to wait for a fixed term to expire. An assured periodic tenancy can normally be ended by giving up to two months’ written notice.

Your notice should:

• be given in writing, for example by email, letter or text;

• state the intended tenancy end date;

• end on the day rent is due or the day before; and

• be kept with evidence that it was delivered.

A shorter notice period may apply under an existing written term or may be agreed with the landlord in writing. Rent remains payable during the notice period unless an earlier ending is agreed.

After receiving notice, Property Genius will confirm the proposed end date and explain check-out, inventory, keys and deposit arrangements. One joint tenant’s notice can usually end the tenancy for all joint tenants, so speak to everyone affected before serving notice.
